Celebrating the love and the fun of Christmas, Merry Go Round is a beautifully detailed, whimsical celebration of joy for the child in all of us. Ample Projects reimagined the CTA facade as a meticulously detailed mechanical toy carousel with an array of playful inhabitants.
The building spins and pops while robots dance and mechanical animals sing. The show pushed the transformational possibilities of architectural projection, the building packs itself up and blasts off into space as a flying saucer, bejewelled with Christmas lights.
CHARACTER DESIGN
Each character has been designed and created individually to have unique personality and movement.
This is the hero robot who is a living, dancing miniature of the building itself. This character wraps the building, maintains and operates the toy carousel, and drives the spaceship.
CONCEPT DESIGN
Illustrated by Nicholas Tory, this concept sketch was the starting point for storyboarding and 3D character design.
