Audiences were awed by the giant multimedia light sculptures in the stunning grounds of Taronga Zoo Sydney. From the magnificent Sumatran Tiger, the vividly coloured Marine Turtle, and a swarm of tiny buzzing bees to a giant Port Jackson Shark that literally swallow you whole —plus a whole cast of other captivating creatures that sparkled in the night.
Each of these incredible installations and light sculptures told a fascinating tale about conservation. By discovering the stories about these beautiful animals viewers learned how Taronga is working to help save 10 species from extinction over the next 10 years.
Designed and created by Ample Projects, the Taronga Zoo light walk for Vivid Sydney 2017 was a 1.6km sound and light experience. Visitors arrived at Taronga’s Heritage Entrance Facade, transformed using 3D projection mapping into a complex world of ecosystems and spectacular creatures. Designed for all ages, the immersive and fun projection show gently told the story of our planet’s vanishing habitats and the creatures that live within them.
The second and principle experience began through the entrance archway, with over 60 realistic custom designed animal light sculptures, some with moving parts, representing the key endangered species, and some playful creatures in between designed to entertain and inspire.
Ample designed a light walk over 2 kilometres of road inside the park incorporating immersive theatrical lighting, 12 soundscapes, interactive technologies like a light reactive chameleon, multiple layers of custom programmed LED lighting, and numerous light installations.
