Urban Tree | Ample

Transforming the sculptural form of the Commercial Travellers Association (CTA) building into a giant luminous mushroom-shaped tree teeming with exotic creatures, Urban Tree 2.0 at Martin Place proved to be a crowd favourite at Vivid 2017.

The much-loved building, designed by modernist Architect Harry Seidler is already a notable contrast to the soaring angular geometry of the surrounding skyscrapers. Joyous, meaningful and subtly irreverent, Urban Tree 2.0 presents the journey of a curious yellow frog through a tiny world teaming with a variety of creatures.

The show then evolves into a magnificent tree and beyond, highlighting the delicate balance and interconnectedness of all life on our fragile planet. Hand crafted to an original musical score composed for the project, Urban Tree combines traditional hand drawn animation with state of the art 3D animation and mapping techniques.
